After finishing work, I glanced out of my window to see this mysterious crop-circle that has appeared in my garden. What could it be…?

We took the kids to the park this weekend and they wanted to play hide and seek. I suggested that we played a game that we called “ackee ackee 1-2-3″ when I was at school, but is more commonly know as kick the can. We ended up having a great time hiding behind trees and in leaves. Unfortunately when I returned home I realised my hiding out in long grass had resulted in numerous insect bites on my arms and face, and as I always react badly to insect bites, my face feels like it’s ballooning even as we speak. Lifehacker had a few ideas as to how to conquer the itch, so I may have to get some toothpaste out this afternoon.

    Kiss Me Tie

Another classic advert from modern mechanix.

…by day a lovely swank tie in special color combinations to look smart with any suit, and at night like a miracle of light it leaps to life with pulsing, glowing question— “Will You Kiss Me In The Dark, Baby?” Think of the fun in any crowd! Think how the girls gasp with wonder as the question takes form so amazingly.

    Derren Brown Mind Reader

Tonight we go and see Derren Brown’s 2007 live tour entitled Derren Brown Mind Reader (review to follow). I managed to find a copy of the cover of this years tour programme and it looks great. It’s a wonderful tribute to the 1920’s Egyptian Hall style posters that I love. Take a look at this Carter The Great poster that it bears more than a passing resemblance to:

    Miracles in a Can

I just love this post on Modern Mechanix titled “Miracles in Spray Cans”. Written in 1957 it discusses the future of shipping food in cans using a new propellant called Polysol.

Any food that can be made into cream or liquid can be dispensed from Polysol bottles. The first to reach retail shelves, possibly in one to two years, probably will be mayonnaise, syrups, vinegar, cooking oils, salad dressings, sauces and mustard and catsup. Creamed vegetables like spinach, strained baby foods, even mashed potatoes are possible.
The idea was dreamt up by an advertising executive who exclaimed:
“Charley, if you can put a push button on it you’ll make a fortune. Nobody can resist a push button.”
Unfortunately the food of the future didn’t really materialise. I guess the nearest thing to high tech mashed potatoes we have is Smash. Personally I prefer some spuds, butter and a fork although maybe I should try out Heston Blumenthal’s ultimate mashed potato?

    Dalek Cake

Further to my previous post on a chocolate Dalek, this Dalek cake was spotted in a cake shop in York.
